The Science Centre Delft acts as gateway between the projects of the Delft University of Technology and the public. It’s the place where the innovations are proudly presented to the public and technologies are explained to children. But the current coffee corner isn’t quite the technological or innovative one. That’s where we are for.
Barrie Robot Design is a multidisciplinary team of 5 students from the faculties Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Design and Computer Science. We will design an innovative bartender robot to replace the current coffee corner. The bartender will be situated in the main entrance of the Science Centre Delft. It offers visitors the choices of drinks and snacks and helps them choose based on information received from the host robot. The user experience is key element and will enhance the experience of buying and consuming a drink.
The concept for the bartender robot is an interactive, automated bar where you can order drinks and snacks and can sit or stand at. The table top is interactive, so users can choose their order by touching the table. This is achieved using a beamer and sensors. On the table there are three circles where the user can select if it wants a snack, cold drink or hot drink. After choosing the category, the different options are one by one shown as holograms at the top of the bar. The user can swipe on the table to scroll through the different options.
After selection and payment of a snack or drink, the hologram will “fall” down and an animation will be projected on the table top. This animation will draw the attention back to the table top and will make it look like the order comes rolling to the user. Also further information about the selected drink or snack could be projected. During the animation, the drink or snack is being prepared and moved to the front side of the table. As the animation also arrives at one of the three holes, the hole will open and the drink or snack will magically rise out of the table.
This bartender robot is an all-in-one solution for the Science Centre, using interesting technologies for the public and creating the ideal coffee experience!
